Hello and welcome to the Harris Creek Elementary School Music Department website! I am originally from the south shore of Long Island, New York.... you'll understand this the minute you hear me talk :) I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music which is a part of the State University of New York college at Potsdam. I earned my Master's Degree in Music Education from Boston University's College of Fine Arts. I am certified to teach Music to grades K-12 in New Jersey, Virginia and North Carolina. This is my 13th year teaching (Wow! Where has time gone?!). I started off my career as a Band and Orchestra Director and have directed Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, Marching Bands and various string programs. I trained in Suzuki, Orff, Kodaly and Dalcroze pedagogies and now thoroughly enjoy employing these skills into the Elementary Music classroom setting. My main instrument is the flute, but I also play the piano and other woodwind instruments. I have recently taken up the hobby of learning the french horn.... it is harder than it looks!
I have a lot of interests! I play the flute in a local concert band here in Raleigh and teach private flute and piano lessons both at my house and in my studio at the Family Piano Academy. I have a 9 year old Maltese named Clara (named after the composer Clara Schumann) and love spending time going to parks with her. Being new to Raleigh, I have discovered some really fun places to take my dog for a jog; my favorites being the Durant Nature Park and Falls Lake. Other than Music, I would say that my biggest passion is volunteering for Hospice. I have 1-2 patients at a time that I go to visit and provide grief support to the family, use my musical abilities to bring comfort, read, visit and offer companionship. It has been such a huge blessing in my life! I love nutrition and cooking and enjoy finding new meatless recipes!
